MMBA
The Michigan Mountain Biking Association (MMBA) is a 501(C)(3) charitable non-profit corporation. With nearly 2,000 members in 9 chapters across Michigan, we are the second largest affiliate of the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA). The mission of the MMBA is to promote responsible mountain biking and to work toward the goals of common land access and natural resource protection through interaction with policy makers, the cycling industry, race promoters, mountain bikers, and other trail users. Our membership represents all levels of riders, from beginners to world champion racers. This is all accomplished with volunteer support, membership dues, and sponsor donations.
What We Do
The Metro South Chapter MMBA works hand-in-hand with city and state officials to act as land stewards. Our efforts allow us to build new trails, and modify or maintain existing trails. We work to maintain communication with land managers and offer our trail building expertise. The past few years have seen an increasing demand from local land managers, seeking help in creating sustainable mountain bike trails in their parks. Trail Development and Maintenance: Our volunteers design, develop, and maintain trails working with every major recreation land manager. Within Southeast Michigan alone, the MMBA has designed, developed and/or maintains over 100 miles of off road trails. Our trail design volunteers are trained by IMBA using standards developed by the National Park Service and National Forest Service. Trail design, development, and maintenance are key components of the MMBA and mountain biking in Michigan. And little of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteers. Throughout every year, MMBA volunteers work on trails from simply trimming branches to building some of the best trails in America. We track the trail work hours and reward our outstanding volunteers at the end of each year.
